School Board Election ~ September 12, 2017

Strong public schools depend on effective leadership

Interested Iowans should consider school board service

The Iowa Association of School Boards and Martensdale-St. Marys CSD urge Iowans passionate about education to consider running for election to their local school boards. Public schools need strong leadership and governance to ensure a bright future for all children and communities across the state.

School board elections will take place Tuesday, September 12, 2017.

Open Seats Include:  District 1, 2 and 4

Strong leadership in each school district is critical to moving education forward in our state. School board members play significant roles in their communities – they must have leadership, vision and dedication. These locally elected public officials are charged with accountability for student learning, determining educational goals, setting policy, overseeing school finances and more.

School board members are elected to serve four-year terms, with elections taking place in odd-numbered years. Those elected receive no pay. Experienced school board members say the rewards of service lie in meeting the needs of children and communities.

For questions, please contact Jill Gavin at jill_gavin@mstm.us or 641-764-2608.
