Dear MStM Family,

As you have probably already heard, Governor Reynolds announced today that schools will remain closed for the rest of this school year. We are saddened by this announcement but understand and accept that this is necessary for the health and safety of all. In the coming weeks, continuous learning opportunities will be provided as outlined in an earlier communication. Teachers will be in contact with students and families, and learning will continue for those who participate.

We have many questions to answer over the next few months. Our administrative team will be working with the Department of Education, Heartland AEA, teachers, and our school board on a variety of topics related to the rest of this year and returning in the fall. We will get information out to you as soon as possible through all of this.

Students will be receiving credit for the time they were in school. They will be able to get full credit for high school classes, and elementary students will be promoted to the next grade. A major component of our “Return to Learn” plan will address missed learning and steps that will be taken once school resumes to bridge this gap.

Spring Activities – All spring activities are cancelled; decisions for summer sports will be announced by June 1st. Prom and Post-Prom will not be held on May 9th as previously scheduled. Graduation will not be held as scheduled on May 17th. Final decisions on the possibility of a later prom and graduation ceremony will be issued in the next two weeks.

Grades – During our closure, we are not able to issue formal grades. For students in grades 7-12, teachers will be updating JMC on a weekly basis to reflect what students’ cumulative “grades” would be at that point. Formal grades will be issued at the completion of this school year. Students will continue to be given opportunities to retake assessments, complete assignments, and redo work for additional credit. Final grades for students in grades 7-12 will include a 3rd quarter grade and a semester grade. 4th quarter will be blank on report cards and will have no impact on GPA or earned credits. Elementary report cards will reflect learning through the end of the 3rd quarter. Instructional content from the 4th quarter will be remediated for students when school resumes in the fall.

Elementary students and families can pick up their belongings on Friday, April 24th, and secondary students and families can pick up their belongings on Monday, April 27th. This will be a process that includes curbside pickup, including assigned times by student last name.  Please watch for communication regarding this schedule. We are not able to accommodate additional requests for materials pick up, outside of scheduled times, due to district safety protocols.

If you need a Chromebook and/or charger, and did not get one during the last pick up time, please contact Mr. Moser or Ms. Happe.  If you need a wireless hotspot for Internet connectivity, contact the building principal as well. We will have a limited number of hotspots available on a first-come, first-served basis.

This will be a trying time, but we will get through this soon. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions or help.

Sincerely,

Ms. Happe

Mr. Moser

Mr. Wood
